ABOUT THE CELL

The Red Ribbon is internationally recognized as a symbol of the struggle against HIV/AIDS. It is a symbol of solidarity and a commitment to the fight against HIV/AIDS. Red Ribbon Club is a movement started by the Government of India in Educational Institutions through which students will be making awareness on AIDS. The Club aims at harnessing the potential of the youth by equipping them with correct information on HIV / AIDS, Prevention, Care and Support and Treatment.

With a view to take up women’s issues and problems, the cell aims at creating awareness of their rights and duties. It also provides a platform for women to share their experiences and views regarding their status in the society. Added to it suggestions for improvement and empowerment among themselves has been given. Aiming at intellectual and social upliftment of the female students, the cell stands for facilitating women’s empowerment through guest lectures, seminars, awareness programs and other welfare activities.

• To increase awareness among youth on sexual reproductive health and HIV/AIDS.

• To impart skills among youth on self-protection, negotiation, and effective group interaction.

• The clubs are envisaged to instill the values of service, develop healthy life styles.

• To promote voluntary blood donation among youth.

MEMBERSHIP

• All the students particularly the NSS volunteers, NCC Cadets, members of Women Empowerment Cell, etc., are invited to become Red Ribbon Club members/volunteers. As many as one hundred members are enrolled in the RRC.

RRC also aims in building their capacities as peer educators in spreading messages on positive health behavior in an enabling environment and increasing voluntary blood donation among youth. The clubs are envisaged to instill the values of service, develop healthy life styles, and increase access to safe and adequate quantities of blood to all the needy by promotion of regular voluntary blood donation.

The club organizes awareness camps on AIDS particularly on the AIDS Day in village areas. The volunteers engage themselves in taking processions displaying play cards, distributing pamphlets regarding AIDS and the way of healthy living.

Since its inception in the College, the RED RIBBON CLUB Unit has carried out wide range of activities and training programmes like Blood grouping, Blood Donation Camps, Awareness sessions on AIDS and Healthy living. Students of this college are mobilized and formed a group that is termed as Red Ribbon Club. It is a platform where skill and knowledge building session are conducted for the student population.

Objectives:

• To reduce the occurrence of new sexually transmitted infections (incidence), particularly HIV, among youth.

• To motivate youth as peer educators/agents of change both among youth as well as society at large by developing their skills on leadership, advocacy, communication and team building.
